PAN card photo and signature requirements for 2026

Both NSDL and UTIITSL PAN card portals require two separate uploads: a photograph of 3.5×2.5 cm (~413×295 pixels) under 100 KB, and a square signature of 213×213 pixels under 50 KB. The photo tab processes your photograph; the signature tab processes your signature scan. Both are JPEG files with white backgrounds.

How to use this tool

   Go to the "Photo" tab. Upload your photograph. Tap "Process Photo" to resize to 413×295px and compress under 100 KB. Download.

   Go to the "Signature" tab. Upload a photo of your signature on white paper (signed in blue or black ink).

   Tap "Process Signature" to resize to 213×213px and compress under 50 KB. Download.

   Upload both files to the NSDL or UTIITSL PAN application portal.

The unusual dimensions of PAN card uploads

PAN card photo dimensions are unusual compared to other Indian government IDs. While UPSC and passport use square or portrait formats, PAN card uses a landscape rectangle (3.5 wide × 2.5 tall). This matches the physical PAN card size — when the card is printed, your photo appears in the top-left as a landscape rectangle.

The 213×213 pixel square signature is also unusual. Most government portals use landscape signatures (wider than tall). The square format comes from NSDL's portal design — the signature field on the PAN card is square. When you photograph your signature, crop it tightly to just the signature area before uploading, then this tool will fit it into the 213×213 square with white fill.
